Comparison tool
Compare colleges side by side
Pick up to four colleges. Every ranking position, every cost figure, every outcome metric in one table — with the source and reporting year attached to each one.
The short answer
Compare on four things, in this order. First, the six-year graduation rate — a degree you do not finish has no return. Second, the average net price for your income band, not the sticker price. Third, median federal debt at graduation, which should stay below your expected starting salary. Fourth, median earnings ten years after entry, read with the school's major mix in mind, since engineering-heavy schools look better automatically. Ranking position is the fifth thing, not the first.
Comparisons worth looking at
Each of these makes a point about how rankings and outcomes diverge.
MIT vs. Georgia Tech
Elite private against elite public, near-identical earnings
Northeastern vs. Drexel
The two biggest co-op programs, 5.6% versus 79% admission
Mines vs. Purdue vs. WPI
Engineering outcomes at attainable acceptance rates
Berea vs. Spelman vs. Elon
What a small college costs and what it returns
